People with Cataract have a few typical symptoms like blurry vision even with spectacles, intolerance to light, poor vision at night, etc.. Most definitive confirmation is given by your eye doctor with thorough examination.

Is cataract surgery painful?

What are those flashy tests done on me? Are they injurious to my eye?

None of the test done by eye doctor are injurious. These are absolutely safe even if performed multiple times. These tests help the doctor to plan your surgery, decide on best lens for you, or if planning for LASIK decide the best type of surgery for you. These tests are necessary to give complete eye exam report.

How do I know if I am a suitable candidate for Lasik ?

Most people who are in good health and are either nearsighted or farsighted or have astigmatism are candidates for some form of laser vision correction. In general, you should:

  • be at least 18 years of age or older
  • have had stable vision for at least a year
  • have no health issues affecting your eyes
  • be in general good health

Am I nearsighted or farsighted and can LASIK treat it?

As long as your pre–operative evaluation like corneal topography, pachymetry and specular are normal and refraction is stable LASIK can be performed on you.

What is Astigmatism? Does Lasik correct it?

Astigmatism refers to an asymmetric curvature of your cornea. A "normal" cornea is round, like a basketball. If you have astigmatism, your cornea is shaped more like a football. Astigmatism can occur alone or in addition to either nearsightedness or farsightedness and can be corrected with Lasik.

Is there a LASER/surgery to help me get rid of my reading glasses?

With age, our eyes lose the ability to focus on images up close (loss of accommodation). We continually move an image, such as a book or newspaper, farther and farther from our eyes in order to bring it into focus. This condition is called presbyopia. There are permanent options like Implantable contact lenses (aka intracameral lens) which can provide solution to this. This procedure in minimally invasive, however it requires through pre-operative check up and long discussion with your eye doctor to understand the pros and cons of procedure.

What is monovision?

Monovision is an option to help manage ( may not fully correct near vision) both your distance and near vision. The procedure corrects the focus of dominant eye for distance vision and the other eye for near vision. One eye will see things close up, the other eye will see things farther away, and the brain will fuse the images from both eyes and manage to clear any blur. Monovisionis very subjective, people who adjust to it have very satisfactory visual outcomes.

What is Wavefront technology, Wavefront optimised LASIK and Custom Lasik?

Wavefront Lasik or Custom-Lasik: each eye is unique, like one’s finger print. Advances in optics have demonstrated that these three basic elements are only part of the picture. There are tiny imperfections or distortions in every eye. Custom laser correction involves identifying these distortions and treating them to give better visual outcomes with LASIK. Wave front optimised LASIK maintains the natural shape of cornea and reduces induced aberrations. What type suits your eye will be decided by the doctor.
